Londonban az amerikai Fabiano Caruana győzött a Grand Chess Tour 2017 öt versenyből álló sorozatának utolsó versenyén.
Az első helyen kialakult holtversenyt rájátszás döntötte el, ezt Caruana 2,5-1,5-re megnyerte Nepomnjacsijjal szemben. A GCT összetett pontversenyében a norvég világbajnok győzött. A pontverseny első három helyezettje, Carlsen, Vachier-Lagrave és Aronjan kvalifikálta magát a következő évi sorozatra, heten Élő-pontszámuk alapján vívhatják ki a részvételi jogot.
