On October 2, the eighth round of the 43rd World Chess Olympiad was played in Batumi.

In the open event, the Russian national team won the match against Belarus. Ian Nepomniachtchi and Vladimir Kramnik won, while Sergey Karjakin and Nikita Vitiugov made draws.

The leader with 15 points is the US team which defeated Azerbaijan in the key match. Poland is 1 point behind. Team Russia has scored 12 points.

The Russian women's defeated the Netherlands 4-0. Alexndra Kosteniuk, Aleksandra Goryachkina, Natallija Pogonina, and Olga Girya won their games.

China and Ukraine are leading the pack with 14 points. Team Russia is 2 points behind.

Caruana crushes Mamedyarov and is now just one win away from the World number one
