The quarterfinals of the FIDE Chess.com Women’s Speed Chess Championship Grand Prix‘s third leg are underway. GMs Hou Yifan and Alexandra Kosteniuk are the first two players to reach the semifinals.

The format of the matches is a 30-minute segment of 5+1 games, a 30-minute segment of 3+1 games followed by a 10-minute segment of 1+1 games.

Each Grand Prix leg is a 16-player knockout and lasts five days, including one rest day after the semifinals. The dates of the remaining two legs are July 8-12 and 15-19. Each of the Grand Prix legs has a total prize fund of $10,300 with $3,000 going to the winner.

In each Grand Prix leg, every player scores cumulative Grand Prix points according to her position in the final standings. The two players who score the highest number of cumulative Grand Prix points in all three Grand Prix legs qualify for the Super Final on July 20.

Women’s Speed Chess Championship 2020

The FIDE Chess.com Women’s Speed Chess Championship takes place 18th June to 20th July 2020. There are three phases. The now completed qualifiers led to a 4 leg Grand Prix stage and this will produce two players for the super final to decide the winner. FIDE’s page on the Women’s Speed Chess Championship. Valentina Gunina and Anna Ushenina have contested the two Grand Prix finals so far, if they do so in the currently running 3rd leg they will also inevitably meet in the superfinal. The article contains games from the qualifiers where I could identify the players. I did not include material from the two bullet events which were numbers 3 and 6.
