Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2020 Starts in Wijk aan Zee

The 82nd edition of the Tata Tata Steel Chess Tournament will be held in Wijk aan Zee on January 10-26. The legendary festival consists of two round-robin and one open events.

14 strongest world chess players will compete in the Tata Steel Masters. The line-up:  Magnus Carlsen (Norway, 2872), Fabiano Caruana (USA, 2822), Anish Giri (Netherlands, 2768), Wesley So (USA, 2765), Viswanathan Anand (India, 2757), Jan-Krzysztof Duda (Poland, 2758), Nikita Vitiugov (Russia, 2747), Vladislav Artemiev (Russia, 2731), Yu Yangyi (China, 2726), Alireza Firouzja (Iran, 2723), Jeffery Xiong (USA, 2712), Daniil Dubov (Russia, 2683), Vladislav Kovalev (Belarus, 2660), and Jorden Van Foreest (Netherlands, 2644). 

The top seed of the Tata Steel Challengers is David Anton (Spain, 2694).  

Time control: 100 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 50 minutes for 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the remaining moves with 30 seconds cumulative increment for each move starting from the first move.

The first round is on 11 January. All rounds start at 3:30 PM (Moscow time) in Wijk aan Zee, except for Sunday the 26th when the round starts at 2:00 PM (Moscow time). Rest days for the Masters and Challengers are scheduled on 15 January, 20 January, and 23 January. Round 5 (16 January in Eindhoven) starts at 4:00 PM (Moscow time).
