Hou Yifan won the Belt and Road 2019 World Chess Women Summit that was held on December 19-20 in historical city Xi’an in China, known for its Terracotta Army.

The rapid tournament could boast a solid lineup that included former women’s world champions Alexandra Kosteniuk, Antoaneta Stefanova, Anna Ushenina, local stars Shen Yang, Tan Zhongyi, top female players Sarasadat Khademalsharieh, Nana Dzagnidze, and the eventual winner, top-rated female in the world Hou Yifan. She scored 5/7 losing one game to Alexandra Kosteniuk, who finished second.

The four-time Women’s World Champion has not played much since she started her studies for a Master of Public Policy at Oxford University in 2018. Although she occasionally participates in classical tournaments, the last time her rapid rating changed was in August 2018.
