First symbolic moves were made by FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, the 12th world champion Anatoly Karpov, a well-known Russian footballer Dmitri Bulykin, and President of the Yekaterinburg chess federation Mikhail Vakhrushev.

There were two decisive games on this day: Ian Nepomniachtchi and Wanga Hao defeated respectively Anish Giri and Ding Liren as Black. The games Vachier-Lagrave – Caruana and Grischuk – Alekseenko were drawn.
