Saint Louisban a kínai Ding Liren és a norvég világbajnok Magnus Carlsen holtversenyes elsőségével fejeződött be a Grand Chess Tour 2019 ötödik versenye, a 7. Sinquefield Cup. A viadal utolsó fordulójában a félpontos előnnyel vezető Ding Liren remizett az azerbajdzsáni Sahriyar Mamedgyarovval, Carlsen sötéttel nyert a francia Maxime Vachier-Lagrave ellen. A holtversenyt rájátszással döntik el, Carlsen a GCT 2019 összetett pontversenyét már megnyerte, a négyfős londoni döntő résztvevője. Az indiai exvilágbajnok Viswanathan Anand az amerikai Hikaru Nakamurával osztozott meg a ponton, az orosz Szergej Karjakin az amerikai Fabiano Caruanával remizett. Anand és Karjakin az első két helyezetthez hasonlóan veretlenségüket megőrizve lettek holtversenyben harmadikok. Az orosz Jan Nepomnjacsij vereséget szenvedett a holland Anish Giritől, leszorult a dobogóról. Mamedgyarov, Giri, Caruana és Nepomnjacsij ötven százalékon zárt. Magyar idő szerint csütörtökön magyar idő szerint 17 órakor két 25 perces rapidpartival kezdődik a rájátszás, 1-1 esetén villámpartik döntenének.
